Value Added Scores

(The following growth scores are derived from a value-added model. Value-added growth estimates how much student scores are expected to change based on actual growth of similar students. It then compares the change in the student’s scores to that estimate. If the student’s performance improved more than predicted by the model, we say her district had high value-added. That is, the district’s impact on student learning resulted in higher-than-predicted growth. A value added score of 3.0 is average.  https://apps2.dpi.wi.gov/reportcards/home). Disclaimer.

The purpose of visual representation of data should be to make the information easier to understand.  That is not the case on the dpi.wi.gov site.  The format of the existing, available data has changed over the past 7 years.  Data for subgroups are not always logically complete.  District wide testing is most useful when data concerning the results of the testing is reported.  The total number of students in subgroups is not always internally consistent (i.e. “Economically Disadvantaged”).  To the extent that the data “Summary” is accurate, we believe that our conclusions are well grounded.
